As I gave myself Reiki this morning, I realized that I was thinking of a recent news story that was making me angry and upset. As I caught this, I immediately reminded myself of the Reiki principles. “Just for today, I will not worry. Just for today I will not anger…” As I repeated the principles to myself, it occurred to me that instead of getting frightened, worried and angry at those that cause harm to the world and others, I need to forgive them.  Forgiveness is one of the most important things a healer can offer the world. Forgiveness heals everyone. If I want the world to heal, I need to offer forgiveness.

To forgive can seem like a foreign idea to us because most of us believe that we have to remain indignant and outraged when we are hurt. We seem to believe that thinking badly of someone will prevent them from doing more harm. We are fearful and worried about being wronged, which triggers anger. In reality, being angry at someone never prevents them from repeating their mistake. It only creates further harm, both in yourself and in the person you direct your anger towards.

When you forgive someone, you free yourself from that anger. You allow peace to settle and healing to begin in your own heart. You also prevent further harm being done in the world because you will not be projecting anger and resentment. Forgiveness is not a way to control the other person. It releases the need to control them and frees your from the cycle of anger. You can be free and at peace. From a heart of peace, you can love and heal more easily.

Each thing you do or think has an effect on everyone else. You can choose to carry anger or you can choose to carry peace and love. Either one will rippled out endlessly from you, affecting everyone you come in contact with, then going on to affect those they come in contact with. If you are sending anger into the world, then anger will develop in the world. If you send love, love will develop in the world.

As a healer, I must take responsibility for each thing I send out among the people and creatures of the world. How can I heal unless I am sending out love, peace and forgiveness? I must first forgive myself to encourage my own healing. I must forgive those close to me for all perceived wrong-doing. I must also forgive those who rape, murder, make war, harm the Earth, and harm animals, steal and cheat. Unforgiveness says it expects change, but it truly won’t allow change to take place. Only forgiveness says that change for the better is possible.

I will forgive and offer Reiki to anyone who causes harm to another, just as I send Reiki to those that are harmed. Healing should be for everyone, particularly those that need it the most. Someone who causes harm is out of balance and in pain. As healing takes place for them, they will break free from the need to harm another. Healing must take place for everyone. As long as one of us remains in pain and suffering of any kind, we all will suffer in some way.

When you look through the eyes of oneness, healing all beings becomes very important. Anger and worry become a stumbling block to healing ourselves or others. Perhaps this is why Mikao Usui made “do not worry” and “do not anger” part of the Reiki principles. Removing worry, fear and anger and having peace in our hearts and minds fosters our own healing. We can then offer healing to others more freely.

Flower essences are the blossoms of plants prepared from a sun infusion in a bowl of water, then further diluted, potentized, and then preserved with brandy.

These preparations embody the distinct imprint, or energetic pattern of each flower species. In holistic healing flower essence therapy is categorized under vibrational medicine. Vibrational medicine incorporates the use of chi energies within living organisms such as plants, gemstones and crystals, water, sunlight, and even the foods we eat.

Flower Essence Therapy Origins

The founder of flower essence therapy was an English surgeon named Dr. Edward Bach. Dr Bach was a pioneer in understanding the connection of our emotional bodies to our physical health. The 38 original flower remedies, known as Bach Healing Herbs were used to treat the underlying emotional causes of diseases.

Ill health (physical imbalances and dis-eases) results when we are in imbalance or when we lose our awareness, are disassociated from others, or disconnected from our life purpose. The living forces of nature collected from the blooms of our flowering plants, prepared, and placed in liquid stock. and dosage bottles are used in healing our physical, etheric, astral, and spiritual bodies.

How Flower Essences Are Applied

Flower essences enjoy a reputation of being highly effective and very safe to use. Flower essences, or flower drops as I like to call them, can be taken directly from the stock bottle. A few drops are typically applied under the tongue. Alternately, three to four drops of stock essences are mixed into a liter of purified water that is sipped throughout the day.

Specialized combinations of essences are commonly prepared in one ounce dosage bottles. A dosage bottle will normally last ten to fourteen days.

The medical community is not convinced that there is enough evidence to support the effectiveness of flower essences. This is fair, admittedly, vibrational energy is very difficult to measure by scientific means. Yet, in the holistic community, flower essences are favored by practitioners to address emotional and spiritual imbalances. People suffering from clinical depression or other mental health issues should contact a licensed mental health professional for treatment.

Intuitively Selecting Flower Essences

Selecting essences can in itself be a process of inner growth and awareness. Through quiet reflection, meditation, self observation, and consulting and conversation with others, it is possible to become aware of issues in our lives that demand our attention. These may be related to any area of our lives, our work, our relationships, or our personal selves. I tend to see the flowers visually with my third eye, yet when I cross reference my visuals in my flower essence resource books. I am always amazed at how accurate intuitive-chosen flowers are. Kinesiology testing is another way that people can use to select the appropriate essences for themselves.

Helpful Tips:

Standard dosage for flower essences is four to ten drops under the tongue four times per day.

Potency is increased not by taking more drops at one time, but by increasing the frequency.

You can benefit greatly by consulting an experienced flower essence practitioner.

Although people occasionally notice immediate shifts when taking flower essences, others may experience difficulty perceiving any changes due to the gradual effects flower essences normally take. Taking flower drops over time will build a stronger and stabilizing influence in our relationships, in our attitudes, in our stresses, and in our overall state of well-being. Flower essences are not cure-alls. Flower essences are intended to be our helpers in aligning our life energy toward healthy growth and development.

An appropriate flower essence to keep near your computer for frequent use is yarrow. Yarrow essence helps relieve feelings of vulnerability and protects us from absorbing environmental influences (especially rampant within office atmospheres). Air pollution is an inescapable health threat of our time, and no matter the amount of healthy choices you make, you are still vulnerable to exposure. The health effects of air pollution are many, including allergies, asthma, heart disease, lung disease, and even nerve damage. Even exercising outdoors in urban environments can increase our intake of pollutants, since strenuous exercise increases oxygen demands. Fortunately, specific dietary strategies may protect our body and brain from the effects of air pollution.

An Uncommon Fighter Against Air Pollution

An estimated 7 million deaths occur worldwide due to air pollution. Researchers are constantly looking at bioflavonoids and chemical constituents in natural foods that could possibly reduce air pollution effects. A recent study looking at the effects of air pollution found it may be mitigated by broccoli sprouts, an antioxidant-rich food that is also high in beneficial enzymes. Broccoli sprouts are extremely high in glucoraphanin, which initiates the production of sulforaphane. This compound increases enzymes that facilitate the removal of pollutants.

The study, including 291 participants, consumed a beverage containing freeze-dried broccoli sprout powder, whereas the control group consumed sterilized water mixed with pineapple and lime juice. Individuals consuming the broccoli sprout beverage increased their excretion of benzene, a toxic carcinogen, by up to 61%. Benzene is commonly found in our environment due to toxic emissions from heavy industry. Researchers believe the sulforaphane may be exhibiting the main protective effects, increasing the ability of cells to adapt and survive in the presence in toxic chemicals.

When many people think of air pollution, an image of dirty and smoky downtown cities typically comes to mind. Our homes, however, are probably a major source of pollutants. Furniture, for instance, releases toxic flame retardants that interfere with hormonal health and may increase cancer risk. Since you live and sleep in your home, you’re probably breathing in a variety of toxins from furniture, cleaners, and even the paint on your walls. There are many ways you can reduce indoor air pollution, like finding furniture without artificial flame retardants and using non-toxic cleaning agents.
