“Natural Forces Within Us Are The True Healers” ~ Hippocrates

By Phylameana lila Desy

The hara is a core power-source that resides beneath the auric field of the human body. It is housed inside the tan tien, existing on the level of intentionality. The hara is also known as the core star connection.

Haric Level

The haric level serves as the aura's foundation. This is where your intentions are birthed, held, and housed. You might say that this is where the source or seed of your life purpose is located. It is also the source of your creativity.

About the Hara Line

The hara line is a laser-like line that aligns vertically with the physical body. Not visible to the human eye it has been said to be approximately one-third of an inch wide. It begins three and one-half feet above the crown of the head extending downward into the core of the earth, with three important points along the hara line.

Location of Three Points of the Hara Line

1. Above Head: This is considered the separation point of where your soul incarnated in an earth being. The "spark" or beginning of your earth journey. This point encapsulates your life purpose or reason for incarnating. It is often referred to as the "godhead."
2. Upper Chest: This point is specific to our emotional body, the source of our passions, longings, and life purpose. It is referred to as the "soul seat."
3. Lower Belly: This point is located approximately two and one-half inches below the navel. It is your power (or WILL) center. This is where you draw your will to live from. Also, where you tap into powerful energies needed to follow through with your intentions. It is referred to as the "tan tien."

Intentionality and the Hara Dimension

Barbara Ann Brennan, energy medicine healer and scientist, devotes a whole chapter (Seventeen: Intentionality and The Hara Dimension) in her book entitled Light Emerging: The Journey of Personal Healing. She emphasizes the role of the hara in regard to our intentions. She goes into great detail about how the hara can be energetically healed and aligned. She also describes how to connect your hara line with others to create a group hara line. Very cool!

Healthy vs. Unhealthy Hara Line

A healthy hara line is straight, centered, and well rooted. A person whose hara line is aligned properly will be in sync with integrity, power, and purpose. Whereas, a person whose hara line is misaligned will display negative-intent behaviors such as being argumentative, procrastinate, be overtly competitive, and perform their duties shoddily.

Signs of Dysfunction in the Hara Line

*Godhead Dysfunctions: Signs of a dysfunctional godhead are cynicism, and a break or complete disconnect from God or source.
*Soul Seat Dysfunctions: Signs of a dysfunctional soul seat include the physical appearance of a sunken chest, experiencing sadness, despair, grief...specifically grieving the loss or what once was or of plans that were never manifested.
*Tan Tien Dysfunctions: Physical signs of dysfunctional in the tan tien are chronic back pain or a tilted pelvis.

Today, based on growing and effective applications of saffron in medical fields and in alternative medicine, it has attracted the attention of many researchers and it may substitute chemical medicines

The word "saffron" (Crocus sativus L.)  is derived from the Arabic word za'faran, which translates to "yellow." Saffron finds its name in the oldest text of Kashmir (Nilamatapurane, Vol-1). Also, in the much celebrated ancient cluster of Kashmir, “Rajtarangini” Kalhana includes Kashmiri saffron among those special attributes which according to the people of Kashmir cannot be available even in the paradise (Nehvi, 2010).Saffron also finds its mention in Kashmiri records which dates back to 5th Century BC (Nauriyal et al., 1977).

Iran, India and Spain are the major saffron producing countries of the world. Iran occupies the maximum area of 47000 hectares with a total production of 238 M.T contributing above 90 % to the total world’s saffron production.

Saffron has been utilized for different parts of world particularly for confectionary, alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, colouring agent for sausages, oleomargarines, dairy products such as butter, cheese and icecream for color and flavour improvement. In Kashmir, saffron has a long history of being used in culinary (Kashmiri cusine, wazwaan) and Kashmiri tea (Kehwa).

There is a long history that the stigmas of Saffron are being used by Chinese, Iranian and Indian traditional medicines for anodyne, antidepressant, a respiratory decongestant, antispasmodic, aphrodisiac, diaphoretic, expectorant, and sedative. It was also used in folk remedy against scarlet fever, smallpox, colds, asthma, eye and heart diseases. Saffron was also used against blood diarrhea, fever, measles, hepatitis, liver and spleen cyrose, urine infection, cholera, diabetes, and dermal diseases and to reduce the discomfort of teething infants.

Medical, Pharmaceutical and Other Applications of Saffron

 Effect on Learning Behavior

The saffron extract and two of its main ingredients crocin and crocetin, improved memory and learning skills in ethanol-induced learning behavior impairments in mice and rats. Oral administration of saffron may be useful as treatment for neurodegenerative disorders and related memory impairment. (Abe and Saito, 2000; Abe., 1994; Sigura et al., 1995).

Antioxidant Activity

The methanolic extract of Crocus sativus and its components such as safranal, crocin etc. were reported to possess radical scavenging activity, suggesting its use as a cosmetic to treat age related disorders, as a food supplement.

Crocin was found to possess greater antioxidant capacity than alphatocopherol in neuronally differentiated pheochromocytoma cells deprived of glucose, whose absence caused peroxidation of their cell membrane lipids and decreased intercellular superoxide dismutase activity. These effects were reversed by crocin, promising it as a unique and potent antioxidant that combats oxidative stress in neurons.

Further it was also said to increase the levels of various enzymes such as the glutathione reductase, glutathione-Stransferaseand also maintains the functional levels of other antioxidants suggesting it as a potential antioxidant. (Hosseinzadeh and Sadeghnia.,2006).

Heart Disease Protection

Antioxidants in saffron tea can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. The flavonoids, especially lycopene, found in saffron can provide added protection. A clinical trial at the Department of Medicine and Indigenous Drug Research Center showed positive effects of saffron on cardiovascular diseases (Verma et al.1998). The study involved 20 participants, including 10 with heart diseases. According to the Indian Journal of Medical Sciences, all the participants showed improved health, but those with cardiovascular diseases showed more progress.

In addition, saffron has been found to be the richest source of riboflavin (Schmidt et al.2007.,Bathaie and Mousavi,2010).  Due to the presence of crocetin, it indirectly helps to reduce cholesterol level in the blood and severity of atherosclerosis, thus reducing the chances of heart attacks. It may be one of the prime reasons that in Spain, where Saffron is consumed liberally, the incidence of cardiovascular diseases is quite low. The crocetin present in saffron is found to increase the yield of antibiotics.(Basker and Negbi.1998)

Cytotoxic Effect

The effect of the ethanolic saffron extract on macromolecular synthesis in three human cell lines: A549 cells (derived from a lung tumor), WI-38 cells (normal lung fibroblasts) and VA-13 cells (WI-38 cells transformed by SV40 virus), revealed that the malignant cells were more sensitive than the normal cells to the inhibitory effects of saffron on both DNA and RNA synthesis (Abdullaev & Frankel.1992 b). It has been suggested that the inhibitory effect on cellular DNA and RNA synthesis, but not on protein synthesis, is one of the main mechanisms of action for saffron’s antitumor and anticarcinogenic activities (Abdullaev & Frankel.1992 a,b .,Abdullaev,1994).

Anti-diabetic Activity of Saffron

The active constituent of saffron viz crocetin, was found to possess anti diabetic activity in fructose-fed rats as it alleviated free fatty acid induced insulin insensitivity and dysregulated mRNA expression of adiponectin, TNF-alpha and leptin in primary cultured rat adipocytes,  suggesting the possibility of crocetin treatment as a preventive strategy of insulin resistance and related diseases (Liu et al .2005).

Advanced glycation end products are known to cause the oxidative reaction that usually results in endothelial cell apoptosis and thus result in diabetic vascular complications. Crocetin by virtue of its good antioxidant capacity and calcium antagonistic activity or stabilization may be a good remedy for diabetic vascular complications (Shen & Qian.2006).

Cancer Chemo Preventive and Tumoricidal Properties of Saffron

The saffron extract itself and its main constituents, the carotenoids, possess chemopreventive properties against cancer. Saffron in the presence of the T cell mitogen phytohemagglutinin stimulated a non-specific proliferation of T lymphocytes invitro. The use of crocetin in lung cancer was found to decrease the lipid peroxidation, glutathione metabolizing enzymes and also revert the histopathological changes relevant to tumor incidence proving it as a potential anti-tumor agent (Inoue et al.2005.,).

Crocetin was found to exert a small inhibitory effect on the development of skin tumors induced in nude mice by the application of 9, 10-dimethyl-1,2-benzanthracene, 7-12 dimethyl benz [α] anthracin and croton oil (Nair et al.1995).

Today, based on growing and effective applications of saffron in medical fields and in alternative medicine, it has attracted the attention of many researchers and it may substitute chemical medicines. The recent scientific findings on the biological activities of saffron, together with the body of anecdotal evidence for its therapeutic activity against a number of diseases, provide strong indications that saffron and/or its components may be useful agents in modern medicine.

With hazelnuts as part of your daily diet, optimal health isn't such a hard nut to crack. Here are five science-backed benefits of this popular snack and versatile food ingredient.

Nuts are a nutrient-dense food that contain healthy fats, protein, fiber, minerals and phenolic compounds. They are thought to offer wide-ranging cardiovascular and metabolic benefits and can be readily integrated into a balanced diet.

The hazelnut, which comes from the Corylus tree of the Betulaceae family, offers a sweet flavor and the flexibility of being eaten raw, roasted or as a paste in ground form.

It's considered an excellent anti-inflammatory and hypolipidemic treat, being the second richest source of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) among nuts and being chock full of vitamin E, magnesium, copper, selenium, L-arginine, folate, fiber and polyphenols, to name a few. Here are five evidence-based benefits of hazelnuts.

1. Antioxidant Protection

Hazelnuts have one of the highest oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) scores of any nut, signifying outstanding levels of antioxidants. These chemicals protect the body from oxidative stress, which can damage cells, accelerate aging and promote disease.

As testament to their antioxidant prowess, a hazelnut-enriched diet modulates oxidative stress and inflammatory gene expression without causing weight gain. Compounds of the tiny, mighty nut have been found to have antioxidant and antimicrobial effects.

Hazelnuts also contain the antioxidant vitamin E, which some studies indicate may help shield the body from cell damage linked to cancer.

2. Antiobesity Strategy

Proteins derived from hazelnuts are an excellent source of bioactive peptides. A 2019 study purified and identified antiobesity peptides from the nut, finding that the novel synthetic pentapeptide had potential antiobesity effects and may help combat metabolic conditions.

In a European study involving over 370,000 men and women ranging from 25 to 70 years old, higher intake of nuts was associated with reduced weight gain along with a lower risk of becoming obese or overweight.

3. Improved Cardiovascular Health

The MUFAs and antioxidants in hazelnuts have been tied to a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease. In an intervention diet lasting up to 84 days with a dosage of hazelnuts ranging from 29 to 69 grams a day, it emerged that a hazelnut-enriched diet can decrease LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol, without substantially changing HDL cholesterol, triglycerides and body mass index (BMI).

According to separate research, a high-fat, high-MUFA hazelnut diet proved superior to a low-fat diet in terms of creating favorable changes in lipid profiles, therefore positively affecting coronary heart disease risk in the subjects.

The high fatty acid content as well as fiber, antioxidants, potassium and magnesium, in the nuts also seemed to help normalize blood pressure levels. In a randomized study, the combination of hazelnut and cocoa acted in a synergistic and protective way on the cardiovascular system.

4. Lower Blood Sugar Levels

Largely due to their micro and macronutrient profiles, nuts are believed to help control blood glucose levels. They are low in available carbs, offer a healthy fatty acid profile and are high in fiber, plant protein and magnesium. In a study that combined hazelnuts with walnuts and almonds for metabolic syndrome patients, the results also reflected reduced fasting insulin levels.

5. Potential Use Against Cancer

The high concentration of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals along with other nutrients in hazelnuts may also give the nut some anticancer action.

In a study, the nuts' shell extract provided antioxidant effects and cytotoxic activity against human cancer cell lines. "The cytotoxic activity relies on the presence of the neolignans (balanophonin), and phenol derivatives (gallic acid), showing a pro-apoptotic effect on the tested cell lines," the researchers wrote.

Results from a separate study suggested a potential use of hazelnut extracts against cervical cancer, hepatocarcinoma and breast cancer.

Incorporate these nuts into your diet as a snack or a component of many different dishes, enjoying them raw, roasted, sliced, ground or even whole. Peeled hazelnuts can also be turned into flour for healthy baking or as a nutrient-filled spread.
