1) KEEPING YOUR CHAKRAS BALANCED DURING THIS PANDEMIC

Your chakras offer valuable information about how your beautiful, holistic, delicate human system is doing. Check in with your body, mind, and spirit daily during the pandemic.


Quarantined. Working. Out of work. Feeling ill. Recovering. Home with kids. Home alone. Home with loved ones. Not at home. There are so many situations you are in during the days of the COVID-19 crisis. The general air of uncertainty, fear, and grief manifests in many ways. You may feel creative bursts and like jumping into action. Or you may feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and depressed. You may even experience a roller coaster of these emotions throughout the days and weeks. As much as possible, give yourself the grace to feel and be as you are.


Understanding Your Chakras


The chakra system offers a simple framework with which to organize thoughts, behaviors, and feelings. The ancient chakra system is an understanding of the subtle energy within you. Subtle energy is one of the five layers, or koshas, that make up your being. The koshas include your physical body (skin, muscles, bones), breath body (breath), mental body (thoughts, ideas, emotions), energy body (prana, life force), and bliss body (true, deep essence).


When you look and feel closely at your experiences, you can see that what happens within one layer can have an effect on another layer. Consider how your heart rate speeds up when you think a thought that induces fear. Or how you feel a deep, inner sense of calm when you receive a hug from your beloved. It is probable that the worldwide panic and anxiety is affecting you on several layers.


Because what goes on energetically within you can reveal itself in different ways, such as trouble focusing or difficulty sleeping; it can be helpful to do a personal check-in. Look and feel closely to see how you are doing physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. These self-care inquiries can be practiced daily, once a week, or on an as-needed basis.


Here is a chakra check-in cheat sheet.


Muladhara: Root Chakra Check-in


Are you feeling grounded? Do something that gets you centered and calm such as deep breathing or resting on your back. Also try gardening, walking barefoot, and researching the benefits that a break for the transportation system has had for the environment.


Svadhisthana: Sacral Chakra Check-in


Are you hydrated? Have you washed your hands? Drink a big glass of water. Wash your hands and face (again). Also try taking a bath, dancing, and journaling about your emotions.


Manipura: Solar Plexus Chakra Check-in


Are you nourished? Notice what you have been consuming, particularly in terms of food and media. Make yourself a huge helping of nutritious and energizing foods. Also try watching a candle flame burn, massaging your abdomen gently, taking a break from the news cycle, and speaking positive affirmations while looking at yourself in the mirror.


Anahata: Heart Chakra Check-in


Are you connecting to sources of love? Make a connection with someone you love by calling, texting, or writing a letter. Also try stretching your arms wide open, hugging a pet, and tending to a houseplant.


Visshudha: Throat Chakra Check-in


Are you expressing your truth? Share your personal experience of this time with someone you trust. Also try singing, drinking tea, intentionally releasing judgments of yourself and others, and wearing a face covering if you must go out.


Ajna: Third Eye Chakra Check-in


Are you seeing the bigger picture? Search for the positive aspects of this time. If possible, contemplate if this has been a valuable time of slowing down, connecting with those you care about, and prioritizing your health. Also try using your intuition to decide what to do next, using an eye mask to get good sleep, and writing an ongoing gratitude list.


Sahasrara: Crown Chakra Check-in


Are you opening up to a sense of oneness? Also try meditation, any inverted yoga pose, and finding an aspect of nature to gaze upon (a flower, a plant, a tree, the clouds) to commune with the wide world.


Bonus: Aura Check-in


In what ways can you protect, sustain, and nurture your overall energy? Consider your entire system. Do at least one thing every day to take care of yourself. Take breaks from the news and social media. Rest and drink plenty of water. Eat healthy foods and move your body. Connect with those you love and set boundaries as needed.


This time of coronavirus can be an opportunity. Humans have a chance—as individuals, as a society, as a world—to do things differently.


This is where a chakra check-in can help you gauge where you would like to create a shift in your life. Continue frequent check-ins and personal self-care daily, weekly, or whenever you feel an imbalance. Here’s to health, balance, and wellness as you do your part to overcome coronavirus.

2) BEETS AS A SUPERFOOD


Beets have lots of nutrients that work in multiple areas of the body to help keep us looking and feeling our best.In order to get the most benefits, you’ll need to eat them raw or just lightly cooked. They lose nutrition the longer you cook them.


Some people think beets are weird or nasty to eat at meals because of their sweetness. If you’re one of those people, I’d suggest juicing or blending into a smoothie.But no matter how you consume them, you should put them near the top of your healthy foods list.By the time you’re done reading today, you’ll see just how right the Russians are about this incredible root vegetable.It’s a superfood for good reason.


Did You Know Beets Work 3 Ways?


Beets contain nutrients called betalains. The two best-studied betalains are Betanin and Vulgaxancin.If you can’t pronounce those, don’t worry.That’s not important.What’s important is that these nutrients have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and detoxification power.


That just means they help to…


keep your body looking young…
…they decrease pain and swelling, and…
…they get toxins out of your body so they don’t harm you.


That’s pretty incredible. Though vegetables typically have more vitamins and minerals than meat does, they usually shine in one of the three areas – not all three!

Beets Work Overtime To Help You Look And Feel Young


Every human body on earth makes its own anti-aging nutrient. It’s called glutathione.


Some researchers and doctors call glutathione The Master Antioxidant. It keeps your skin supple, smooth, and wrinkle-free when you’re young…and some companies sell supplements to help you make more of it.


It’s also powerful when it comes to detoxing your blood and liver. You can’t live without it.


Now…unfortunately, your body makes less and less glutathione as you age. But that won’t matter as much if you eat beets.


Beets Have All The Most Important B Vitamins


Did you know that beets contain the b complex vitamins? These include B-12, Biotin, and Folate.


Without enough of the B-complex vitamins, you’ll feel exhausted everyday, you’ll probably have problems with anemia (which means you’ll feel cold a lot of the time), and your hair won’t be as thick or as healthy as it could be.


Your memory will probably be pretty bad, too.


B complex vitamins help with all these things. Add beets to a well-rounded diet, and you’ll pretty much solve all these problems.


I’ll tell you one more thing about beets and then leave you to make your own decision.


This last one might give a lot of hope to hurting families out there.


Beets Help Prevent Dementia


Uncooked beets have high levels of nitrates in them. When you eat beets, the nitrates are transformed into nitrites.Nitrites cause blood vessels to expand a little…and this lowers blood pressure a bit and also ensures that nutrients from food reach the brain.


The older you get, the smaller and less flexible your blood vessels get. This can make it hard for blood to reach the brain.


When you put all this together, it’s one of the reasons why so many older people are dying of dementia and other age-related brain diseases.


If you want to avoid this, just put beets into regular rotation in your diet.


It’s that simple.


You can juice beets, put them on salads, or have beet slices in sandwiches. It’s your choice.

3) HEALTH BENEFITS OF ALKALINE WATER

Our body maintains a pH balance, which is extremely crucial to carry out various processes in our body. A pH scale measures from 1- 14 where 7 is the neutral point, anything above 7 is alkaline or more commonly known as basic in nature, and anything below 7 is acidic in nature. Ideally, a healthy human body needs the presence of both bases and acids but the ratio that it normally maintains is 51:49, keeping the alkaline (basic) nature just a little higher than the acids. The pH level of a normal body is believed to range between 7.3 – 7.45.


Acid is a necessity, especially in the stomach wherein it is required to break and digest food. However, certain foods are also acidic in nature, and over consumption of such foods can increase acidity in the stomach, leading to various problems. Alkaline water is a water with a higher pH level than normal drinking water, and is meant to induce a basic nature in the body. This water is made of calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium. It is said that alkaline water helps in maintaining the pH balance in the stomach.


Alkaline water brings many health benefits that we may not have known of. It may boost immunity, hydrate your body and provide many other benefits for good health.


To begin with, alkaline water when introduced in the body neutralizes the acidic toxins present in the body. Overabundance of these toxins essentially means that the body must work overtime to maintain healthy functions- resulting in lethargy and overall weakness. Alkaline water, which is easily absorbed in the body allows for a more efficient system of flushing the toxins and harmful substances out of the body. Alkaline water is also known to improve the performance of one's circulatory system, which means better blood quality and more oxygen to vital organs. 


Additionally, drinking alkaline water hinders the growth of free radicals in the body that can fasten the ageing process. As per a study published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, a significant difference in the whole blood viscosity of participants was observed after consuming alkaline water as opposed to regular water after a strenuous workout. According to a study published in Evidence Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, alkaline water provides higher longevity in terms of "deceleration aging factor" as it increases the survival functions. 


Alkaline water is fortified with a range of essential minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium and trace elements like copper, zinc etc. that are essential for maintaining body's metabolism. A study published in the Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine showed that consumption of alkaline water may prevent osteoporosis and protect pancreatic beta cells with its antioxidant effects. Yet another study published in Public Library of Science (PLOS) said that drinking alkalised water enhances hydration, improves acid-base balance and anaerobic exercise performance. People who drink alkaline water claim that it provides greater hydration than regular water. Since many people suffer from dehydration, especially so in warmer climates, drinking alkaline water may be an effective way to keep the body well hydrated.


There are many other known benefits of drinking alkaline water, such as stronger bones and weight loss. All the benefits above collectively prepare the immune system to battle foreign pathogens and protect you from many diseases and health issues.


Here are some pointers about alkaline water :


1. Contains Antioxidants


Free radicals from pollution, smoking and other toxic sources are neutralised by antioxidants and this water is a good source to obtain these antioxidants.

2. A Good Source of Detoxification


There are acidic waste accumulated in our body which are nothing but toxins. Alkaline water helps to flush these toxins out of your body, which facilitates cleansing of the entire system.


3. Keeps You Hydrated


Alkaline water is absorbed quickly due to which our water intake increases and it keeps us hydrated. Alkaline water also contains ionised minerals that are very vital for our body, especially for efficient blood circulation.


4. Maintains the Body's pH Level


Ailments like acid reflux produces unwanted stomach acid or bile, which irritates our body and causes chest burns. This can prove to be very harmful for our body and can decrease the basic nature of our body. To neutralize this acidic content, alkaline water is beneficial to give a quick boost to the pH level of the body.


5. Helps in Weight Loss


An infamous study in 2011 called The effect of daily consumption of 2 liters of electrolyzed water for 2 months on body composition and several physiological parameters in four obese subjects: a preliminary report concluded that the participants who were a part of the study lost 12 lbs over the course of two months without altering their diet, just the addition of alkaline water to their every day routine caused the weight loss. After this experiment, it is believed that alkaline water could possibly lead to weight loss.


Stop! Don't Go Overboard with it


We need a balanced pH level in our body since excess of everything is bad. If we start consuming alkaline water in excess then we are making our body more alkaline, which disrupts the biochemical processes in our body. Vitamins like B12 need the stomach acid to absorb it but the alkaline nature of the system can neutralise these acids leading to loss of vital vitamins. Metabolism and digestion can be affected due to diluted stomach acids and an excessive alkaline nature of the body can produce a condition called the metabolic alkalosis.


How Can I Make Alkaline Water at Home?


Here's the perfect recipe to make your very own home-made alkaline water


Ingredients:


* 1 litre of water (filtered)
* 1 lemon
* 1 1/8 tablespoon sea salt (Himalayan pink sea salt preferably)


Method:


* Take a pitcher and fill it with water.
* Then cut the lemon in half; squeeze half of the lemon in the pitcher and then thinly slice the other half and add it to the water.
* Lastly add your sea salt. Mix it well and let it sit overnight (8-9 hrs at least).


Go ahead sip on your freshly made alkaline water. Enjoy!
